The whole "Left v Right" political spectrum is bs in the first place. The NAZIs were socialists, but after the war all the other socialists and communists insisted they be called "Fascists" and made up the "political spectrum" just so they had an insult to call politicians they disagreed with.
The reality of the matter is that both communism and fascism are collectivism. It's a false choice between two ideologies that are so nearly identical you'd be hard pressed to wedge a sheet of paper between them, much less a full range of competing political viewpoints.
When your two "extremes" are "I want the oligarchy that controls me to call itself 'the community'" or "I want the oligarchy that controls me to call itself the nation", there's no place for "I don't want an oligarchy to control me" in the middle.
The real range is between Totalitarian collectivism and anarchist individualism. With that model, you actually have a range of options of to what degree government is allowed to restrict the options of individuals for the sake of public good.
