Declassify federally and let the states decide. And do it before 2020 election.

86
Ilanna 86 points ago +88 / -2

I would legalize medically, decriminalize general and let the states decide on general use.

50
real_mcnugget 50 points ago +50 / -0

Bingo. Almost like, hey, federal gov't...go fuck yourself and your abuse of power. Let us decide.

Heh. Almost like, hey, state and municiple gov't....

31
JesusMaga 31 points ago +32 / -1

Have it regulated like alcohol and tobacco, no driving under the influence, no smoking in places that don’t allow smoking, don’t sell to kids, otherwise no problems

20
BTFO 20 points ago +20 / -0

Indeed. It really is simple and logical. Something that conservatives heavily screwed up on in the past. Would be glorious if Trump corrected it, and yanked the one and only thing that the Dems have to run their platform on that will actually sway votes. Trump would win in a landslide.

Hope 9 points ago +9 / -0

This is smart. Canada fell to that commie Trudeau/Castro because he promised to legalize pot. Look at Canada now. It's the laughing stock of the world. The pot smokers are zealous - they'll even rouse themselves to vote if it means legalizing pot.

I had mixed feelings about legalization because I have seen a lot of damage done to people; however, friends educated me about CBD oil, which I now make for elderly family & myself. The benefits are real.

9
monzzter221 9 points ago +9 / -0

How about no. The federal government has no business in it, declassify entirely. How do you let the States decide on it if it is still illegal but "decriminalized"?

3
Ilanna 3 points ago +4 / -1

Make it legal everywhere for medical use. Then make it so it is NOT illegal federally so the states can decide if they want recreational use. Its giving the power back to the states.

6
pyropulse209 6 points ago +6 / -0

Fuck the states. Give power to the individual. Or rather they should take it.

No state has the power to infringe on natural rights, which drug use clearly is. Enumerating the bill of rights leads people to believe we only have 10 natural rights.

Some states infringe on the 2nd, yet i doubt you will claim that is a good thing “due to power being at the state level”

What state level shit should do is specifics to running their regional government, like education, instead of federal mandates. Education is pushing it, as state sponsored education also sucks.

2
monzzter221 2 points ago +2 / -0

There are certain things the states do not have the power to do. Search you without probable cause is one of those things. And there are certain reasons they do not have the power to do those things. A lot of thought went into that.

If you think about drugs, they are just compounds people choose to consume. Why should we give power to regulate that to the states? Why do states not have the power to ban firearms?

Individual liberty is above states rights. Everything isn't "states rights". Some things are just nobody's business but mine.

2
lifeisahologram 2 points ago +6 / -4

I agree with this. Even though Marijuana is objectively safer than alcohol, and I support people using if they want, living where it's legal (recreationally) is disgusting. The smell is everywhere, all the time. It sticks to everything!

States should be allowed to ban or restrict it how they want, simply for how fucking disgusting it is lol.

7
Niighhtmare 7 points ago +7 / -0

I dunno man smells pretty good.

2
pyropulse209 2 points ago +2 / -0

I don’t smoke, but that shit smells good. And I don’t smell it anywhere unless I’m next to someone that has it.

1
lifeisahologram 1 point ago +1 / -0

Well I don't know if you live in Portland, Eugene, or Las Vegas, but I definitely smell it everywhere in those places.

13
Do_u_ev3n_lift 13 points ago +13 / -0

That would seal the deal for 2020. The dems would be left with their mouths hanging open saying, "That was our move".

Declassify would please most, and it isn't federally "legalizing" which would be yet another example of the federal government taking power away from the states. Historians will remember that the size & scope of the federal govt used to be flipped up until Lincoln. To free the slaves from the democrats, he had to increase the size and expand federal power bigly. if it was 80/20 states/federal, its probably 20/80 now.

9
rn10950 9 points ago +9 / -0

> declassify federally and let the states decide.

Is that a decision that he can make, or does it need to go through congress?

15
superalienhyphy 15 points ago +15 / -0

Considering that the drug is classified by the DEA and Trump is their boss I don't see why he can't do it unilaterally

2
Sabot_MBT 2 points ago +2 / -0

It's just like DACA, an executive order to specifically not enforce an extant law. The problem with that is that a future president can use an executive order to remove a previous executive order.

Unless that president is being blocked by a 9th circuit judge or a supreme court decision.

1
chelbull 1 point ago +1 / -0

doubt a president would take executive action to recriminalize pot after it was decriminalized. that’s bad politics right there

1
AslanFan 1 point ago +1 / -0

All they would have to do is carry a bag of Doritos around with them. If the driver can get through questioning without saying, "Are you going to open those, or what?", then they pass.

1
TheChancre 1 point ago +1 / -0

A field sobriety test for THC is easy. The officer slowly unwraps a Little Debbie snack cake and watches the reaction of the motorist in question. Will work every time.

I've never smoked anything in my entire 30+ years of existence and think it's a dumb thing to do to your body but I'm a libertarian and have voted for the pro marijuana legalization every chance I've gotten.

14
MemesofOurFathers 14 points ago +14 / -0

Same! Well, conservative and have tried it. Not something I'll do as it'd make me too lazy but that's about it.

Way preferred it to drinking too much or getting hangovers from a glass of freaking wine!!

4
cluckingducks 4 points ago +4 / -0

it'd make me too lazy

I always described it as destroying my ambition. It's too easy to just veg out and get nothing accomplished.

13
EpicTrump 13 points ago +13 / -0

Same here. I support decriminalizing, legalizing, de scheduling whatever you want to call it. I’ve seen how it helps people with certain medical conditions and others who use it recreationally, just like people like to relax with alcohol. Everything in moderation. Time to end the nanny state.

7
two_womps 7 points ago +7 / -0

> I've never smoked anything

That's why I stick to the edibles my dude.

1
M28_20 1 point ago +5 / -4

I'll give up weed the moment any credible study shows its dangerous to your lungs. But as of yet, its harmless

6
cluckingducks 6 points ago +6 / -0

Dude. ANYTHING, (dust of any sort and smoke of any kind) is dangerous to your lungs. Involuntary coughing is your body telling you to knock it off. I imagine eating cookies would be much safer. Having said that, I will relate to you that all the people I know that developed problems from smoking tobacco, smoked more than a half pack a day and I'm thinking you don't smoke that equivalent.

8
Seanshankredemption [S] 8 points ago +8 / -0

That's one of the reasons I started this thread. I knew it would be a somewhat divisive topic, but I wanted to show the world how two differing views can cooperate with each other.

7
BTFO 7 points ago +7 / -0

I’m glad you did. It’s something that needs to be discussed and considered. Older folk endured decades of anti-Cannabis propaganda, hence why we still have some people that don’t want it legalized. When in all reality, it’s much much less harsh and safer than alcohol and cigarettes, yet people in some states are still tossed in jail for it. If someone wants to grow and utilize a harmless plant in the comfort of their home, they should be allowed to.

Write the WhiteHouse with how you feel about it! Tweet about it to the President. Get the word out. Trumplicans/Conservatives can be pro legalization as well. Enough with the police state/constant government intervention. This is America. Land of the FREE.

Hope 2 points ago +2 / -0

My parents were very anti pot for years! Now they have a small grow op in their basement, LOL, herbs drying upstairs that "give the house an interesting aroma" & we are making our own CBD tinctures, oils & creams for medicinal use.

We have all experienced health benefits from using it medicinally. As for using it to get high, I don't want to meet someone driving on the highway high or drunk. Moderation is the key.

1
BTFO 1 point ago +1 / -0

Yeah, that sucks. It puts people who use cannabis into the same category as crackheads. There is a big difference. That shit needs to be corrected.

6
Bmorepirate 6 points ago +6 / -0

This is why it needs to be fixed federally - you would no longer be "an unlawful user" to the federal government, and it would no longer be a controlled substance.

Trump has already legalized hemp through the farm bill....he is most likely going to win 2020 without the cannabis issue. Taking decriminalization from the Democrats promising to legalize/decriminalize it federally, would seal his presidency and he’d go down as the greatest president ever, in many peoples mind.

Trump, the founding father 2.0, who also legalized cannabis. MAGAJUANA!!!

1
BTFO 1 point ago +1 / -0

10
Murph 10 points ago +11 / -1

I personally don’t smoke it anymore, but people have the right to do it if they chose. Out here in cuckistain where I live it’s legal so it’s all over the place. Too many lives have been ruined over wanting to get high off a mostly harmless drug (well, watch out doritos) look up kyle myers for an example. They destroyed over $400,000 in guns that he owned all because he had a little weed, now his second amendment right is vanished. Total bullshit.

8
MemesofOurFathers 8 points ago +8 / -0

It's evil, especially when alcohol takes so many lives, is addictive, and requires quite a chemical process to make. Weed... You just grow. And I don't partake myself either.

4
BTFO 4 points ago +4 / -0

Indeed. People should be allowed to grow a naturally occurring harmless plant in the comfort of their own home if they like. This is America isn’t it? Land of the free? Sick of the government intervention into everything.

1
pyropulse209 1 point ago +1 / -0

Food takes a chemical process to make..... I seriously don’t understand why even bring that up. It is utterly irrelevant.

9
IcculusBased9 9 points ago +10 / -1

Masspede here, it's already legal up here, and recreational dispensaries are opening up all over. They are crazy busy. Lines of cars, overflowing lots, people traveling from all over. Some have satellite lots and shuttles. What I'm saying is, it is a CASH COW. Someone is going to be getting a shit ton of cash to infuse into politics, and my guess is it won't be going to the right. All liberal states will legalize it, and fatten their war chests when they get wind of the bonanza happening up here.

9
27Sandino 9 points ago +12 / -3

I think weed is harmful, I personally can't smoke cause then I can't stop, but I agree it should be legal.

8

This is the one and only thing my terrible state 'that shall not be named' has done correctly... I think if trump were to pull out a surprise reschedule/deschedule ahead of 2020, that it'd pretty much guarantee re-election. Here's hoping!

It'd also be kind of funny to watch salty libs twist themselves into knots over this and overnight start sounding like Sessions.

I think it's hilarious that as an NH resident I can go across the border into MA to hit a dispensary and legally purchase weed for recreational use...but to do that I have to leave my daily carry behind because THAT'S illegal.

3
BTFO 3 points ago +4 / -1

It really is back-asswards. Cannabis is something that the US government really screwed up. It should’ve never been made illegal. It was all about control and whom was influencing politics (Big Pharma/Alcohol/Tobacco/Prisons)... and it was all legitimized by constant anti-Cannabis propaganda being pushed.

3
Hope 3 points ago +3 / -0

Before 1937 cannabis was regularly prescribed by US doctors. The name was changed to marijuana, it was made illegal & the propaganda was started by the usual suspects you named.

1
Dann 1 point ago +1 / -0

Hoping to make the MA > NH jump in my future. Envious of what you can own up there vs here.

4
Goodscumbagbrian 4 points ago +5 / -1

I support legalizing because it will help to choke out the cartels. But at the same time I don't want the filthy government to get control over it because you know they will increase taxes on it over time like they did with tobacco.

1
556Carbine 1 point ago +1 / -0

Choking out the Cartels is a pipe dream (no pun intended). While they still make a goodly amount of cash from weed, they have diversified. Meth, heroin, human trafficking, money laundering, and a shitload of other illegal enterprises are there to fill the void. More meth is made in Mexico now than was EVER made in trailer parks by toothless rednecks. Here on the border a pound of weed is cheap. Economics of scale make it far more profitable for the same mules to hump a backpack full of meth than a backpack full of weed. An SUV stuffed with weed might be worth 100K. That same SUV stuffed with meth or fentanyl is worth millions.

4
MacwellX 4 points ago +4 / -0

ElderPede here: Whatever they do, it must be market driven. I have a medical card and the price the State charges is way over the top. Even counting for inflation, the price for an once shouldn't be more than $100.00/OZ. I would pay $480.00 if bought from the State. $480.00? That may not be a big deal to someone who's still working, but to me, (on a fixed income) it's a lot.

1
Warren_Puffitt 1 point ago +1 / -0

Ditto here (66). Florida MMJ patient. The problem here with pricing I believe is multi-faceted. 1) Vertical integration business model imposed by the state adds cost due to the inability to outsource any part of their production or importing any product from an outside source; 2) at this early stage of the program's maturity, demand continues to outpace supply - coincidentally due to 1) above. These factors, No. 2 in particular inflate the cost of product to the consumer/patient.

The only way that I can reasonably afford it is to use a single dispensary that offers a 20% Veteran discount and another 10% for loyalty points accumulation.

I'm 63 years old and I support full Federal marijuana legalization with no exceptions besides age.

I've smoked it daily for 45 years, have all my mental faculties and no health issues from it.

Everything you have ever heard about pot is wrong. Even the new "stronger" varieties. Edibles are the only thing I would be cautious about.

Legalisation would allow regular citizens to grow it, sell it, cook with it, open pot bars and restaurants, brew beer with it, make alcohol with it, creating millions of jobs beyond the farming aspects.

1
BTFO 1 point ago +1 / -0

That’s amazing. Thank you for your comment. I didn’t touch it for years due to all of the anti-Cannabis propaganda and ill-informed people saying it was basically the devils lettuce lol. Tried it for first time last year and boy was I wrong. Such an interesting and amazing plant.

I am 100% Trumplican, and I am also 100% for federal level legalization across the board (medical, recreational, and growing your own at home). This plant is harmless, less damaging than alcohol, and provides quite a few medical benefits for some people. There’s no reason it should be illegal while things such as alcohol and cigarettes are legal. This is America, not communist China. Not to mention, the Democrats only have one good thing to run on right now and that is cannabis legalization. Oh how glorious it would be if Trump yanked that out from under them!

I'm certainly not PRO Cannibus. I think it's foolish for the most part. However; I also think it should be treated like any other drug. If there is evidence of a benefit, then use it sparingly.

As far as legalization, again, the abuse is the problem like it is with alcohol.

Not my cup of tea and if still illegal then still should be prosecuted. Now on the other hand, since my wife has had cancer, I would have her take anything to make her feel better. Our country is 50 states that presumably self-govern via their own voters. As with other Trump initiatives, he believes in efficiency and good common sense approach. I believe that most rational people believe that the federal cannabis prohibition (Sched. 1 classification) is fucked bc a) it is based on largely false information, and b) it prevents states from truly self-governing when the laws voters enact are in conflict with the half-century old federal law that was created under entirely different circumstances with zero scientific data to support it.

I am a hard-core Trumpian Pede, retired career US Military professional who has spent his entire adult life defending our freedom and the US Constitution, a MMJ patient for a variety of ailments, but also I just love to smoke weed. Take me for what I am, or don't - I'll respect you just the same.
