When I first started using Reddit I was impressed with how pleasant people acted, as opposed to Facebook. But after using it now for 5 years it has really gone to a very dark place. The hate, nastiness, anger is now over the top. I’m glad this site was setup and I personally can get away from Reddit, because I love my life and Reddit makes me want to hate people.

Yeah I joined way back when Planetside 2 came out and the place was cool man. Now it is very mean and authoritarian and the politics have tainted pretty much most subs I check out. This is a pattern across much of social media with mods taking an "Us vs. them" mentality where the "Us" are invariably virtue signalling "I protect the weak" types who are just libtards.
A lot of the country is turning this way! Anywhere there are lots of Donks, there is incivility and corruption.
Well, I do not go looking for trouble in the real world and the people I have encountered are pretty normal. For california. Had a conversation with a kid who gave me a lyft yesterday we hit it off great. Aspiring musician, nice black young man (race doesn't matter to me but I make a point later about it) in his 20s. I asked him what he thought about Epstein and I think he misunderstood the question and said his dad hates trump and mentioned the impeachment.
After he was done talking I mentioned that politics are divisive nowadays even though we have more in common than not. I told him the first thing they do in prison is separate us by race (or try to) so we cannot shake hands (which we promptly did). I do not bother with zealots in the real world or social media using real names, they are fanatics and will never change their opinion.
I think this is because initially they figured Trump would go down in flames and treated a lot of people like shit. Instead of being humble and apologizing they simply doubled down.
