Last year, Japan was working to amend their constitution to remilitarize and up until the shit with covid. Not sure where it sits right now, but it's probably in limbo currently.

edit: For anyone curious, Japan is also launching new smaller and faster frigates. First one launched today. These are meant to supplement their growing number of missile boats that they've been ramping up over the last few years too.
