Jefferson was indispensable. But Hamilton was indispensable too.

They were opposites, Jefferson the idealist, and Hamilton the realist, who got it all paid for, so we weren't shirtless in the street, laughed at as silly hippies, whose failed "republic" showed that liberty could never last, because it didn't pay. Men needed a king and inherited, severe, feudal authority to make them do a full day's work, that would have shown. Hamilton saved us from that.

It had to pay.

Jefferson died broke buying books.

Hamilton made our country survive.

What has no sound financial foundation does not last. Hamilton is on the ten dollar bill for good reason. He made it pay. Somebody had to. We owe it all to him.

Both men were geniuses and both men were necessary. It was that kind of generation. Amazing people.

"Jefferson and Aaron Burr tied for the presidency in the electoral college, and Hamilton helped to defeat Burr, whom he found unprincipled, and to elect Jefferson despite philosophical differences."

"Hamilton is generally regarded as an astute and intellectually brilliant politician and financier, if often impetuous. His ideas are credited with laying the foundation for American government and finance. "
