Thermite isn't an explosive. It's an incendiary material, but it doesn't cause a high pressure blast. I suppose you could TRY to contain it in some vessel as the pressure from heat and gasses build, but the high temperature would almost certainly compromise the vessel and it wouldn't be able to hold pressure.

If there was thermite, it wouldn't cause the block to eject, and it would burn downwards THROUGH the frame. Not as much up, although the rising heat would cause damage, as well as the rest of the fire from the vehicle and gasoline.
