Okay, hm, how has empathy as a tool worked out pretty well for you?
That's going get a bit specific, but a few things...
- Married to same women for 30+ years (and my only marriage)
- My kids aren't fucktard leftists (both went to leftist hives called University; including master level studies)
- I built up and sold a division of my business by 35 and "retired"
- I own (outright) two businesses, part owner (double-digit %) of three other businesses
- I have 3 houses in the places where I want to find myself on any given day of the year
- I paid for the new building for the private school associated with my church
And, that's just stuff. Not bragging, but you asked. I'm still (very) flawed. But a lot of that has directly to do with having a clear understanding of what makes people tick whether it is my personal or business relationships.
Empath? Sounds like some woo-woo label. I wouldn't call myself anything. I'm just a guy that tries to understand what needs to be done and who is involved, so understanding concerns, fears, motivations, etc is part of that.
Again, maybe that's just how I see "empathy". I reserve being sympathetic (extending my own emotions) for the people and situations where it's appropriate --my family, my extended family, universally-recognizable suffering (e.g., a family with a sick child), etc.
