I learned in 5th grade the "northern version" of the civil war. That summer we went to florida and I thought it was odd that all these southerners had "racist" confederate flags everywhere. Stopped off at a confederate memorial in Alabama where the guy working there was a re-enactor. The guy didnt have history degree from a university, but knew more about the war than any other human I've ever met. That was my first experience with coming to grips with the reality that the shit they teach you in school is usually 50% truth, 50% bullshit. Same applies to WW1 and WW2. I always find it funny when someone declares themselves an expert on history because they got a degree on a topic that was only taught to them through an american revisionist angle. Congrats, you memorized propaganda, you are offically "smart".
