People act like this is something new but in reality, it's actually not that much different than average people 100, 200, 300, 400+ years ago. Oftentimes, the average person didn't care who rules the government because they had no say in it. To your average farmer, it didn't matter if the government was French, English, American, or whatever as long as taxes were reasonable and the government wasn't oppressive.
This still holds true today. Your average peasant, so most people you talk to, don't care who runs the country as long as they feel like they can still have a life. Most people's lives today consist of porn, sex, drugs, social justice causes, video games, tv/movies/books, dog/cat and that's about it. Presumably, they'll still have all of that under Biden and Chinese overlords. Few people understand how their freedom has been stripped or that they are being exploited for the true value of their labour by their new masters. This is mostly intangible and not something average people understand.
As I'm sure others have pointed out, there were very few Americans that actually wanted out of British rule, most Americans were fine with it. For the average person, it's easier to just accept new masters than do anything about it or even begin to understand or care.
