The State Bar will examine everything and if they catch you playing games, then they get pissed but if you're upfront about DUIs, expulsions, dishonorable discharges, they'll look into it but at worst they'll recommend counselling. The Bar WANTS more attorneys since you'll be paying fees.

There's plenty of good reasons to not be a licensed lawyer and the JD takes you pretty far especially since you know what you want to do with it.
