Going to drop some knowledge.
I've done research into diets and foods and over the course of a few years of reading, I found things.
During the early and mid 90's, we had a "fat free" craze. Everything was low fat, or fat free, and everybody thought they were eating healthy food. Great, right? Wrong. Fat in food isn't a bad thing. As these food companies removed the fat content, they had to replace it with something. What was the mysterious replacement? Sugar.
That's right. Sugar flooded the American diet. If you look at the data, there is a correlation with obesity and this "fat free" craze. Diabetes also began trending up. Pretty much any illness related to extreme sugar consumption. Next time you're in the store, head on over to the mayo section. Have a look at two jars of the same brand, but one is "fat free" or "low fat." Compare the sugar content of the "fat free" one with the regular version.
