I agree. Am a MD myself, but did mostly research because I felt working as a doctor was intellectual underwhelming. I later realized most of research is inefficient, that a lot of scientist manipulate the data to stay funded or get ahead and getting your papers published depends on who you know and on whether your research doesn't rattle the cage too much. I then left research and started a business and am happy.
