Occasionally and at random, the show would come to a screeching halt and "Gene Gene The Dancing Machine" (an overweight black dude, one of the show's stagehands) would come out and start dancing to old Count Basie swing-era music while the show's judges and other stagehands threw random objects at him and the host, Chuck Barris (the guy who claimed he once worked for the CIA and who wore hats way too low on his face), would dance maniacally along with him.
