After all think about it, what was the Cold War other than the US spending, spending, spending, spending, spending, spending, spending, spending, and spending (both dollars and American lives) to both clean up the former colonialist's messes in the East and Mid East, AND spending 99% of the cost of defending against the USSR? The US has spent like $50 trillion or more "defending" Europe from its own bullshit when the USA has 2 oceans, a huge navy, and a fortress continent to protect itself.
Think about it. The entire Middle East mess was the result of Britian's occupation of the defeated Ottoman Empire. Every Mideast nation we know of save Iran came from Britain carving it up and appointing horribly corrupt colonial governors. Post WW2, the UK gleefully dumped this in the US's lap. Vietnam...was 100% the French's colonies in South Asia that France itself dragged the Kennedy Administration into assisting then they bailed and left the US trying to stop the commies from taking over all of East Asia.
And to say nothing of the Cold Ware in Europe where the US shoulders all the defense costs against the USSR while the Euros lavishly spent on socialist policies that afforded their people a standard of living 2x as nice as Americans.

Honestly we should have sat back with both fingers up and let Germany eat them all alive and then have the Soviets defeat Germany and rape them.
