I can tell you first hand that what is being done in the US was being done in China during lockdown. Only big government owned supermarkets were opened. Except in US it's being stretched out much longer. It's like they took it right from the China play book. Edit: I forgot to add that during lockdown also authorities normalized biometric data capturing devices at every entrance where people live. Facial recognition, thermal, ect.
