We value thinking for ourselves, but the problem is we have the wrong idea of what is good. Good means to be morally perfect. Is a free thinker morally perfect? Not if he lusts after women, and certainly not if he follows, "Do as thou wilt," the doctrine of the devil from the beginning.
We ought to value actual goodness. Moral perfection only found in Christ.
Gnosticism just teaches man can become a god, which violates the whole law. Love the Lord thy God and him only shalt thou serve.
A child is much happier when in agreement with his parents. When he obeys, he is happy, and his parents are happy. If we obey God we will be happy. The problem is we obey our fleshly desires, and we are slave to sin, and to making of ourselves a false god.
The mark of true religion is obeying God. Caring for widows and the fatherless. Having love one for another because we love God. We should seek after harmony with him, and yet we do not, seeking only our own destruction.
God righteously hates sin. If he is a just God he will judge sin. The Bible says the wages of sin is death. We love sin, and so we hate God because he gives us our wages. We earn the death sentence. But the Bible aslo says, the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
That is why we must trust Christ. He said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father but by me. Jesus a perfect life without sin. He gave himself as a perfect sacrifice. He paid the debt of sin thaf we earned through our wages. That is what happened on the cross that day he died. He took our wages upon himself, so we would not have to.
When rose again he proved he conquered death, our wages, and sin forever.
All we have to do is trust Christ, believe on him, and we will have our sin debt paid off forever by him. True liberty is in Christ, taking all of our debt off of us, and forgiving it all, so that we could be free from the righteous justice which we have earned, even though we are undeserving. I don't want to be a free thinker. I want to be a free man!
Edit: How is that for a red pill?
