It's all about ego for those fuckers. They know they prefer capitalism in their own lives (hell, most of them are upper class, if not wealthy themselves). But they put on a front about wanting socialism/communism, just for the virtue signaling points and to go against the grain of what other people in their generation are like. They know they'll never actually have to live like a socialist/communist and will always have their home, iPhone, Tesla, and other capitalist niceties.

Who knows what they'd do if the shit they're advocating for actually worked, and they found themselves in a communist society.
