Look up and learn what the thin blue line means.
Next, there is a vast difference between police from one department to the next. Usually the larger the department, the more corruption but also look at the political stance of the city.
DC government is a far left wing government, so everyone in their police administration is going to lean politically left. What you get with that is low officer accountability, horrific training, and you get thugs for police officers.
Check out DC Metro, you can't tell most of them from thugs on the street. Their uniforms are sloppy, they are unprofessional, they have criminal records. Compare that to, say, Dallas PD, or Louisville PD. There are some corrupt officers but they have a very different take on their work.
Federal government is even crazier, they have VERY low standards for law enforcement. The photo you see of the guns drawn in the House chamber, check out that sloppy chick in uniform sitting down looking in the other direction. Go to any federal building and look at how sloppy and unprofessional their "police" are. They are mostly inexperienced, poorly trained, and don't know what they're doing.
I get it, people are mad, but blaming all law enforcement for the corruption happening in DC isn't the way to go because DC is not the standard, at all. You have to see it for yourself, it's embarrassing, but this is how capital cities are around the world. High crime, corruption, etc.
The failure in law enforcement was DC's, and DC's alone, just like the problems with yesterday's protest belongs to those who decided to take it to the next level. It does not belong to the President, or the people who were just there to march and to be heard. The world knows that DC was on fire for days back in early summer. We aren't that stupid.
The reason it is staying like this is that people in power do not want to give that power up, no matter how bad things are downstream. And of you come you come trying to fix things, like the President wanted to do, they aren't usually able to because of the refusal of these power hungry people to look in the mirror and do what's right. Corruption got them the power, and so they don't want to give it up.
Welcome to life.
