As a Catholic, I think Pope Francis is very confused as a theologian. He actually is not a theologian by profession, unlike Benedict XVI/Josef Ratzinger is/was. He doesn't really understand the implications of his actions or the reach of his office as pope in my opinion.

Edit: So that means he gets played easily. He talks too much when a monarch really should remain mostly silent.
