I have Adblock, too. That blocks certain URLs known to serve ads. But, twitter.com (by itself) isn't an ad. So, Adblock allows it through.
But, check out NoScript. It will require some fiddling, as some sites will be blank or have missing content until you find the right set of sites to allow. You can temporarily allow a site, and it will reset the next time you restart your browser.
