That History Channel piece is what is called "propaganda" (& re-writing history), and/or bad sourcing (eg like being "sloppy".) by the writers/producers/creators.

The word populism didn't even exist in Andrew Jackson's time. It's revisionist history. Because Populism also has muh democracy, there's going to be overlap with many "Democrat" platforms before Populism was invented. Since Populism has more overlap with the other marxist platforms, there's going to be Marxist overlap as well.

  • Andrew Jackson famous for fighting the Central Bank, and A.J. for his hard-money policies. The Populists wanted fiat central banking, the exact opposite.

  • Populists want to nationalize industries like the RailRoads back when (or like other industries today; listen to Obama/Biden, or AOC.)

  • Populists want to gungrab and remove armed security eg Pinkertons; where A.J. was the exact opposite in life.

Marxists want to remove barriers to them getting power, so there's going to be some overlap there too. So they like things which accomplish this: taking guns, taking away assembly, taxing away money, puting in limits or restriction on who can run for /hold office beyond minimum requirements, remove the Electoral College, etc.

quick skim of this 2 page pamphlet from the 1892 Populist Party Platform:

BTW, you might want to reconsider your insults/trolling particularly of me. I've read more books including very old books, the entire US Legal Code, and bookracks upon bookracks of case law, more (particularly non-fiction) books likely than anyone you've ever interacted with online or irl. (One of my grandmothers was a librarian, and a great aunt taught school for 50+ years; my great-grandmother gave most of our private library to a local college/university when it was created to "startup" it's library collection.)
