I am a staunch 2A defender, but they probavly did breakk the law. Most likely they will be determined to have brandished a weapon, which means any response from him was self defense. Remember, he didn't do anything violent or aggressive. We don't know if he was doing something wrong, but there is no evidence he was a deadly threat. A random person showing up with a gun and demanding you stop, while brandishing a gun, is easily interpretable as a threatening act.
This opinion is based on the video and evidence we have. I see a lot of speculation about a hammer earlier and such. They are still going to have to deal with chasing him down. This is a hard one to say the two guys didn't create the deadly situation. Even if the guy who was killed can't be completely absolved of some responsibility once all the facts are on the table.
