Well of course they wanted the election to be somewhat legitimate and believable. Much easier to steal a close election than when your opponent wins in a landslide. They were desperately doing whatever they could to turn the tide against Trump. Everything kept backfiring so they just kept sowing more chaos and division. They get off on it.
