I'm sorry to say, but unless you're FROM Japan, they're not going to accept you. Even if you were born in japan and your family left the country, you grew up in the US and went back, you'd still be an outsider to them.

You will never not be an outsider to them and if you get away from the big cities there, you will run into real bigotry and racism. I assume you're white and the older Japanese in the more rural areas do NOT like white people. American's specifically. They won't serve you, they'll make your life difficult at every juncture.

The language is extremely difficult to learn and it's harder to read/write. Their customs and culture are somewhat bizarre compared to the west and if you're young and thin and kind of effeminates, you run the risk of the Yakuza forcing you to be a twink.

Japan has it's own problems too. There's no doubt. When China takes Taiwan, and they WILL annex Taiwan, they'll look at Japan next. But China won't stop at just annexing Japan. They'll kill every Japanese they can find. Because the Chinese have not forgotten Nanjing. Once they take Japan, they'll move onto South Korea with North Korea's help. Then China owns all of Asia.

Japan also has STRICT STRICT immigration. Because they're an island. They can only hold so many people and they have EXTREMELY limited land on which they can farm. They import like EVERYTHING. Because they're an island. Gas is INSANE expensive there (90% of people don't even have cars), and they do have a pseudo socialist government. They're pretty populist, but they have socialist programs and Europe pressures them into stuff since they're in the G20.
