I'm from Asia but to me, western (and American) culture has a split almost a wide as the Haves | Have-nots.
The cultural "haves" are small group of well-off people that goes to museums, pay $20~$70 to watch stand-up shows, pay thousands to make his kid learn violin or Flute (if they have a kid), and includes many snobs that watch treat the fact that he has gone to watch an 150-min Orchestra live performance as a rubber stamp to his "refined taste".
The Cultural have-nots are the large swath of people that haven't read a book for 10 years ever since he finished school. Listens to crap music, watch nothing but action / horror movies & TV played by Hollywood cucks, and in his world the only heavenly voice he ever listened was Susan Boyle from watching reality TV.
Regular working people who still reads regularly, or knows how to play a piano / guitar / any organ, knows how to cook dozens of "Grandma's food" (Real social culture that is!) or has gone to a debate club (or Toastmasters), they are equivalent of the shrinking middle class.
