Upon further review it may be a combination of the overcast conditions not casting clear shadows and the depth of field on the camera making the mics seem out of place. Plus the fuzzy wind filters on the mics not playing well with the video compression. When he leans in to talk the first time the black microphone swings under him and it does get a shadow cast on it and even bumps his hand slightly. You can even hear the audio of it brushing his hand.

Looks like the microphones were added in post. Whoever cooked it up must have mistakenly thought that his hands were close enough to pass in front of them. But he does a second hand gesture after listening to the question and that passes behind the fuzzy mic. They could have just put the layer over top of the video and been just fine. They carefully track them right in front of him as he walks away so they don’t overlap him again. Very odd. Why add fake microphones?
