I love this quote, P.A. Thank you for posting it. Lewis makes it clear: "if you look for comfort, you will not get either comfort or truth - only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin with, and in the end, despair." One problem with modern Christianity is the way in which many are led to Christ. Unlike Lewis's premise (that the Christian religion does not begin in comfort, but dismay), today, just the opposite is true. We are told that God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. We are not confronted with our sin, we are not shown that we have broken our Father's heart, and we are not told that we must repent and accept Jesus as our Lord and saviour. But this is eactly the approach that Jesus took when he spoke to the rich young ruler. And the first words of John the Baptist and Peter were "repent". Ray Comfort has written a book on this very subject, which is excellent, called God Has A Wonderful Plan for Your Life - The Myth of the Modern Message I highly recommend it.
