Unfortunately, the lie had already circled the globe 19 times between when it was put out there and when it was eventually retracted. Over and over again, its the same M.O.: tell an outrageous lie.. then retract it days to weeks later, when the damage to the target is done. It's almost as if this is intentional! ;-)

They did this with the Officer Sicknick being bludgeoned to death by fire extinguisher, then quietly reported that he died of natural causes. By the time of correction, the lie's use/citation in the Trump impeachment was many weeks old. Damage done.
