5.56/.223 exhibits less over-penetration than 9mm. Another advantage of having a rifle is that it is easier to control due to having at least 2 points of contact on the weapon; compared to 1 point of contact with a pistol. It is also an easier platform to add a weapon light and a red dot or holographic sight. Plus, since it is a long gun, you should be able to walk out of your local gun store with it the same day.
