Nobody is gonna give a shit about gold in that scenario. Gold has no actual worth outside of high level manufacturing which wouldn't be a factor. Outside of that it's sold worth is "it's pretty".

You're going to find a lot more people willing to trade food for drugs than some shiney metal. How would you even negotiate the value of that? "This has zero practical use but trust me it's worth all your beans!"

Literally the only use it has in societal breakdown is as money, and without central banking, not even that. A dollar has no value, it's just a symbol of 'labor owed'. Gold would be more valuable than dollar bills but its a joke to think anyone would be prioritizing your decentralized uncontrolled currency over hard value assets.

I mean seriously, what would you base the value of gold on? If a farmer tells you your $500k gold bar is only worth half a bushel, what is your argument that it's worth his entire crop? "Because back when we had money, it was"?

Nobody is gonna give a shit about gold in that scenario. Gold has no actual worth. At least drugs and booze can be consumed.
