Most of the Indians there on H1b, if they weren't married, they mostly lived together and shared the cost of rent often pitching in and buying a car where they'd all car pool into work together. If one had to stay late for project work or Sev1 calls, they all stayed until they could all car pool home together.

It was just a miserable life since rent was so high in Conecticut they crowded into 1500sq ft apartments just to save on expenses. A lot of them were sending money back home to India for their extended family effectively sacrificing their current quality of life so everyone they left behind in India were getting American dollars.

I do have to say a whole bunch of them managed to get a couple Indian restaurants in the area to come in to occupy one of the stalls in the cafeteria. IBM agreed with the Marriott Company that ran our sites food services. The food onsite was always top notch, but letting the Indians have their own slice of life at work was a feather in the hat for site management.
