I am a former member of the Libertarian party. The core ideas of minimal government and personal responsibility are great and align well with conservatives. My problem with the party is that the tent is really big and they are trying to attract everyone. I think they are more focused on getting more members than they are staying the course on the core ideas. This is common with any political party but I felt they were really just trying to pick up anyone with a pulse while taking a knee to whoever wanted it.
One of the big issues I would part ways with many libertarians on were borders. A lot of them are "open borders" where my views would be seen as too tough even by many Republicans.
There are a lot of young people that are Libertarians just because they want to legalize drugs. I am not a user of anything myself and think that consenting adults should be able to do whatever the hell they want at home as long as they are not hurting someone else. But, this isn't a core issue for me and not a high priority. There are more important issues to address first.
Edit: Who is John Galt?
