You know, I was thinking something much the same today. I live in New Orleans where we have roads that are riddled with pot holes, a drainage system that is literally falling apart, a school system that just dumps barely literate consumers into the population, a police force that is slow to respond (I'm being generous here), and a business licensing system (let's not even get into alcohol permits for bars/restaurants) that is so slow and so bloated that it is nearly useless (but they act quick as hell to fine you if you close during Essence Fest).
What actually works here? Fucking nothing is the answer. Maybe some of these screaming children are right... maybe the system in our major cities is utterly broken. But if that is true, it sure as shit is not my fault. So I'm taking my wife and moving out of Orleans Parish where local governments can actually provide me and my family with these basic things that I've been forced to pay for since I was 15.
Spez: The Civil Service test in NOLA is also pass/fail. I passed the test, and got interviewed by some very nice black ladies, but I ultimately did not get hired. Funny how that works, huh?
