My family has always been poor. My father grew up in a 4-room house without running water. Kitchen, dining room, and 2 bedrooms. No bathroom, that was outside.

Dad doesn't know what to say when people ask what his first job was. First job with a paycheck? paper boy. Before that, he trapped muskrats to sell the fur. Before that? He was hunting rabbits and squirrels for the dinner table.

He worked hard, saved up and worked his way through college, got a good job, and had a family. No EBT card. No government housing. No special scholarship for his skin color.

So please, feel free to lecture him about his white privilege.
