I'm going to assume you're kinda new to the gun world based on your comment.

First, the term "assault-type" weapon is mostly used to scare the public into thinking it's a super scary gun that will attack people. They are rifles. Assault rifle is a very specific firearm:

a rapid-fire, magazine-fed automatic rifle designed for infantry use

Civilians cannot own automatic firearms without jumping through very difficult and expensive hoops.

Second, buying online is no different than buying in person. The lower receiver is what is defined as the "gun" and you still have to pass a background check and get it sent to an FFL dealer in order to actually receive it.

So before you suggest more regulation, maybe look at what is already out there. One of the reasons we have some of the absolutely stupid laws that we currently do is because a large number of the population is completely ignorant on the subject and have never bothered to exercise their 2A rights.
