Brave's legit, don't send anything to google. People get nervous when they hear it's built off the Chromium framework, as they associate that with google chrome, but essentially chromium is just the base framework in which a browser can be built off of. Chrome is built off it, just as Brave is, but they aren't connected or affiliated in any other way. Plus Brave has a built-in Tor browser option.
Brave is privacy-based, and they're instituting a much better system that, if and when ethereum (or other decentralized blockchain tech) takes off, could bring a new golden age of internet. It would totally alter how everything works: with Brave, for instance, you can opt in or out of ads; if you opt in, you can earn BAT (an ethereum token based cryptocurrency), stands for Basic Attention Token, so you are essentially earning money for your time/attention spent on ads, and that's how websites/companies get ad revenue. You can use this BAT to support whatever sites you want, or even just withdraw the BAT and cash it out for fiat (they currently don't allow cashing out, but plan to institute it once viable). Really simplified explanation, but it's a fantastic concept
