For context, he did have a sword and he did charge the mob. If he had done it like the St. Louis couple, clearly displaying to the mob that he would be willing to defend his property but doing it peacefully, its possible that the outcome would have been different. But hindsight is easy, defending yourself against rioters by yourself is hard. I'm glad that he made it through.
