Perhaps. There's no denying Trump did more or less take the bait at first back in March. He definitely didn't like doing what he felt he had to do (close the country), and he really was trying to fight through the hysteria to get back to normal without slapping people in the face with data that it's all a scamdemic. I don't think he wanted to just go to the podium and say he was wrong. Sometimes I think that's what he should have done though, considering it could have saved a lot of the damage that was caused by the lockdowns if it meant reopening even slightly earlier.

If his strategy really is to save face by letting it down slowly/easily, he'd better not do it too slow. Obviously his messaging the past few days is not going over particularly well with his base, and the cancelling of the convention made a lot of people question what the he’ll he’s doing. By mid-August I feel like what little support the economy still has will start to give and we'll see a complete economic collapse the likes of which we've never seen before.

And Trump will own that if it happens.
