Your analogy is paranoid and silly because of the second sentence. How may people do you know who are being jailed for personal use amounts equivalent to a six pack today? But I'll play along with your scenario.
Imagine if there were riots in the cities, a borderline pandemic being used to control people, a giant deep state slow coup attempt against a sitting President. Imagine deep staters both in and out of government actively undermining their sitting President against the will of the voters. Imagine a press almost totally committed to lies and propaganda. Imagine leftists trying to implement voter fraud, open our borders, calling all white people racist because of their skin color, and killing millions of unborn. Imagine people wanting to put effort into Federal legalization of alcohol just months before the most important election of our lifetimes instead of focusing on the other issues.
The thought experiment continues. Imagine that no one in the Federal government was interested in enforcing alcohol regulations, other than shutting down large illegal production and trafficking, and instead left it up to state and local jurisdictions to decide.
Except it's not something we have to imagine. Both alcohol and pot have largely become state's rights issues. Trump isn't interested in either one as a campaign platform point. He seems to be busy with other less important things right now.
