I swear the Founding Fathers had a time-machine when they drafted the Bill of Rights (and passed it down all the way to Trump... kek)
There's one fact about our Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen that leaves me weirded out: the Declaration was drafted by the Abbé Sieyès and the Marquis de Lafayette, in consultation with Thomas Jefferson, and despite how convincing Jefferson was regarding the 2A, we have nothing of the sort in the Declaration. Instead we have the imprescriptible right to safety, and also:
Art. XII: The guarantee of the rights of man and of the citizen necessitates a public force: this force is thus instituted for the advantage of all and not for the particular utility of those in whom it is trusted.
Art. XIII: For the maintenance of the public force and for the expenditures of administration, a common contribution is indispensable; it must be equally distributed to all the citizens, according to their ability to pay.
In other words, taxpayer/state-funded police (and I just realized, built-in first block of socialism on top!) As individuals, we have no recourse against a government gone tyrannical.
