I'm doing an engineering PhD, I'm around a ton of foreign nationals all of the time. Some of the smartest and dumbest people I've met were Indians. They have legit universities, but they have a bunch of bullshit ones, too. It's kind of like the Chinese...there are a shit ton of them, so statistically speaking they are going to take up a significant portion of the smart people on the planet.

For me, all of the Indian professors I know are super smart and hard working. One that I worked under as an undergrad was always hacking together random shit with a soldering iron. He came from working on new semiconductor processes in industry, too, so it wasn't like he feel into the academic trap of having his head in the clouds.

It makes me sad the prejudice that the right has against education. The problem is leftist propaganda, and it's relatively sparse in the hard sciences. I share the same contempt for the indoctrinated left as you do, but the solution is not to denigrate the educated right..particularly STEM. Don't stop your kid from doing engineering/physics/a 2-year technician degree/etc.
