The cost to maintain is close to the same, and vollunteers are more difficult, if not impossible to get. Plus, people aren't going to go somewhere to see a 3D mock up on their phones they can just download. You make no sense with every single point you try to make. And donations are volluntary, not taxes.
Your point on endangering military is a good one. Probably your only point. But, the question is, how much stuff do we let them destroy before making a stand? Do you think history is unimportant? The work the people put in to build and maintain those statues? Truthfully, without some sort of real monument to go to, a lot of businesses will suffer. May as well just tear them down. I'm all for tearing down government buildings, but private small business? Hard work by individuals? Not so much.
