It's only 3x normal flu deaths and we honestly do not know if anything we have done has hurt or helped when compared to other countries that chose alternative methods.
EDIT: Malpractice is closer to 250k deaths per year according the first article covering it via the search engine that must not be named and CNBC.

EDIT: first result for malpractice deaths inside the US links a CNBC article stating they are close to 250k. So it's actually significantly less than malpractice as well.
