A lot fewer people are afraid to admit to a complete stranger who just called them on the phone that they're voting for "Joe Local Politician" than they are to admit they're supporting GEOTUS. Personally, I wouldn't care, but older people might be afraid of retaliation. This is why any of the polls mentioning Trump are usually further off.

Also, the polls were wildly wrong in 2019's Gubernatorial race in KY. Yes, the guy (Beshear) who was leading in the polls ended up winning, but there were poll reports throughout the campaign that he was up by double digits. In reality, he barely ended up squeaking it out. (Likely due to just enough fraud in Louisville...but that's another story.)
