I really wish I could find a copy, but there was a great interview with Steve Jobs during his NeXT days, and I don't know how he got on this topic but it was the same idea. That when you're young you're idealistic, you think that the world is fucked up becuase somebody is out to get you, and the solution is easy, you find those people and kill them. Then as you get older you realize there's no grand plan, there's just this weird emergent property of civilization, that there's no big bad out there, reality is just the revealed preference of the masses, and that's a bit of a depressing thought that this is what we really want deep down (paraphrasing of course).
