Is wearing masks such a problem?

Masks do nothing, even N95 masks.

The role of government is to use force, on its own citizens and other governments. It must do this, both for its own survival (defense against outsiders), and for the well-being of the citizens and society (punishment of murders).

The use of force must be carefully considered, over application of force in proportion to the "crime" can be very dangerous. Both for societies, and for people. It will lead to real oppression of its citizens; at the extreme, it can lead to literal armed rebellions.

Creation of crimes with no victims is the beginning of over application of force.

Masks do nothing, and therefore there is no benefit to society to mandate their use. By mandating their use, you are empowering the government to use force against its citizens against those who do not comply. Surely you can see the ending result in this logic?
