He was a fighter, he did have a legit path to victory if he won enough votes in the last round of primaries he was in and then went to a brokered convention. It was a long shot, but it was real. He drops out the second that path is gone.

He gives his fiercest competitor the top time-slot in his convention, that guy still publicly refuses to directly endorse him, and yet Trump keeps working with him to bring him on board.
