"Eh Russian orthodoxy church is nowhere near western catholic religion".

Very true.

The Russian Orthodox Church is a far older expression of Christianity than the religion created by Roman Catholics that led to a formal schism 1400 after Christs death and resurrection.

Orthodox teach that Christ didn't come to create a new religion. He came to end the need for religions by making it possible for everyone to have a uniquely personal relationship with Him without the need for priestly intermediaries.

While superficially similar, Orthodox Christianity is PROFOUNDLY different than the religion created by the Roman Catholic Church. The similarities are because the Roman Church was part of the Orthodox Catholic Church for its first 1,400 years.

Orthodox Christians still jokingly refer to Roman Catholics were the first Protestants.

Additionally, Mormans are more like Muslims. Both acknowledge Christ but neither are Christian. That is not meant to disparage either Muslims or Norman's btw.

Source: raised Roman Catholic. Became agnostic. Ultimately converted to the Eastern Orthodox Church despite my search for God being similar to C S Lewis' search that he described as "a mouses search for the cat".

Sister joined the Morman Church and was married in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Spent two years in grad school researching the Muslim faith, including its history.

Highly recommended eye opening book for Westerners, " Orthodox Way" by Oxford scholar, Ware.
