The difference between a national organization and a community mindset.

Sure there are LARPs, and then there are ex-SFers who are training people in their local area in Intel, community defense, radio work.

The 3's I know don't consider being part of some national org as the goal. Thinking of yourself as a 3 is more of a philosophical commitment.

Everyone has to figure out how to make a difference in their own way, with the skills they have and with whatever sacrifice they can make in time, money, exposure or family balance.

Every time I teach someone how to get into amateur radio, or take a new guy to the range, it makes a difference. One more person who becomes self-sufficient and can shoot and is thinking for themselves.

I just had a conversation tonight with a guy who wanted to buy a pistol for the first time. That's one more on our side if the time ever comes.
