People looking to seize power understand these dynamics and they always have since the dawn of time. The Bible was wrote to combat this evil and strengthen a society. That is how far back we have recorded proof of people understanding this. One can assume our ancestors since the dawn of time have understood this. Morality is the backbone of a strong society. The easiest way to weaken a society and make it ripe for conquest is to counter all its moral values by Inverting everything so people within the society turn against themselves and promote a moral code who's eventual long-term path leads to that of self-destruction. The concept of religion and God existed to give people reason to follow a set moral code in simple terms that made people believe they needed to for something greater than themselves. Atheistic Communism and Fascism are modern attempts to replace God with the State and force adherence to the moral code through the power of the state.
